Blanket Maintenance Guide
Cleaning a blanket is like cleaning a bed sheet but heavier. You won’t have to wash a blanket as often as a bed sheet though, you can conduct a wash cycle after every two weeks or so.
First, take a look at the label and gather as much information about your blanket as possible. The labels contain instructions like what to avoid, which products and cleaning methods not to follow. Read the label properly and then proceed with the cleaning session.
A lot of blankets are machine-washable. If yours is too, just put it into the machine with your regular detergent and run a cold wash cycle. Avoid using bleach or harsh cleaning products as it can damage the outer fabric of your blanket extensively.
If the blanket is not suitable for the machine, you need to wash it by hand. It’s a little more strenuous but just as effective, sometimes more. If you notice any stains on the blanket, work on removing it before you wash. You can use a solution of baking soda and some white vinegar to make a paste and apply it to the stain. You can also use lemon juice instead of vinegar. Take a toothbrush or a soft sponge to scrub over the stain. If it’s too stubborn, you might have to apply the solution more than once. After you’re done scrubbing, wipe it off with a damp cloth.
If you need to wash your blanket by hand, you can do it on the bathtub. Use cold water since it’s safer and less likely to damage the fabric. After you’re done cleaning the blanket, put it out to dry off completely. You can also iron out the creases before storing it away or using it again. Just make sure to keep the temperature on the iron very low.
Don’t forget to check these blankets when you go out to shop for one. Hopefully, one of them can qualify to keep you cozy.
